I wish Nintendo would stop "deluxing" games from the Wii U for the Switch, screwing Wii U investors such as myself, and make a new Excite title better than ExciteBots.  8)
I don't know, I think I'd take an Excitebots Deluxe  :P

I had this set up but my Wii hasn't been working in years and I don't even know where it is now. What I'd give to be able to race again.

If there is ever a new Excitebots there should be a speed run mode like how there was for regular races and poker races. It would be cool to see if anybody could dominate at both speed races and big score races.

See this makes me realize how much I miss this game.

Very good investigation work Dynamo! Glad to see you around. I'm on board with calling in, I'll keep checking the site to see how your call went, Jude.

Apparently there was a re-release of Excite bots on the Wii U on December 15th, and I saw an article that had some interesting news about Nintendo filing a Trademark on Excite truck. I think it's interesting that Nintendo has waited so long to file for a trademark. Maybe they are working on something.

I agree with what TJ said about balancing and what Joom says about staying true to the game's roots. In the major games I've seen that rely on balancing to make or break the game, it's better to build maps where certain classes have their opportunity to shine instead of trying to make all classes or characters fit on every map. Personally I think it would be awesome to have to play different bots on different tracks based on what's available in the map. If the map is flat but has plenty of trees, that could favor a tree run bot instead of a jump combo/spinning bot. It would make the game more interesting to me to have to try to master not just 1, but several bots on several different maps. Pair all of that with the same, or maybe slightly improved, motion controls and you have a pretty amazing game IMO.

That being said, Monster Games should just let us design the new Excite game  :P

Wii U / Re: Nintendo Switch (NX)
« on: October 23, 2016, 11:22:08 PM »
I'm with Jude on not being a big fan of it's portability since I would never use it. The controls do seem a little disappointing to me because I think they make the likely hood of another Excite game pretty iffy at best. I think an Excite game without motion controls would be interesting though.

Forgot where I read this but I saw somewhere that the developers are happy with what the NX is as of right now. I think if the NX has some success, there is a better chance for an Excite game to exist. My guess is that if Monster Games is making a racing game for the NX, it has to be something Nintendo thinks will be successful. I'm not sure how well Excite Truck did but my bet is that's the title they would go with.

I'd get it just for a re-release like Top said but if it is a new Excite game I'd be on board for getting it. I read somewhere it might be a Donkey Kong racing game. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Excite anything though!

I have Overwatch on the PS4, I don't have a good enough PC to try to play it, and it is way better than I thought it would be. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a FPS/MOBA hybrid.

I don't think the community has enough life for you to be putting in $200 a year. I would be okay with switching the domain and I don't think the downtime would affect to many of us very much to be honest. I want to keep things alive just in case, and I have no problem with moving the domain.

This deeply troubles me on so many levels. It smacks of a socialist propaganda “everybody gets a trophy” mentality. It is the same crap in Mario Kart now…people are all whining about the item distribution because if they suck they can’t win anymore. No lightning/bullet combo to save the day. My attitude would have been I want to be everybody to go run home to their mommy. If I could have gotten everybody to quit the game in disgust, I would have gotten immense satisfaction from that. The objective is to win, not to help out your opponent. There is absolutely no doubt that TopStar giving away his secrets made it more difficult for him win. This is all socialist bullcrap. The individual that toils hard has to give away his hard labor “for the good of the community.” Well…screw the community. I want to win and could care less about the community. If I am so good that I can’t find anybody to play with…so be it.

Guys…ExciteBots is dead. You guys need to move on with your lives. It is over. You guys are like a girl who got dumped by her boyfriend and is staying in the house with the shades down.
Socialist propaganda? How to I even respond to that? You have a very skewed view of things, but to each his own.

Let me give you a comparison to the situation you are calling "socialist propaganda."

I play baseball and am a fan of historical players. It's kind of like Excitebots. You were the Babe Ruth of you're generation. (I'm being rather generous) Babe probably wouldn't even be an average player by today's standards. Let me get back on track. Babe Ruth once said, "Baseball is the greatest game in the world, and deserves the best you can give it."
That is exactly what we were trying to achieve. We trying to help produce better players and give the game the best we have to offer. We wanted to see how far we could take it. You took the selfish approach out of fear of one day being surpassed.

We created an environment more closely related to Capitalism rather than Socialism.
Let me explain.

It's like the American Dream, starting off small then making it big! We equipped everyone with equal opportunity to become the best racer than can be. Like all things in life, you get out what you put it. You say everyone get's a trophy, but instead everyone got a level playing field. What they chose to do, or in most cases not do, is up to them. If they aren't getting the scores they want it's because they didn't work for it. If they do get the scores they want then it's because they worked for it. We simply provided a means for inspiration. We showed Excitebots has more depth than one would think as apparent by your lack of contribution to the game.

You like to sit up on you're high horse, but you are only a has been. I wish Ebots was still online that way we could race as I'm liable to beat you with any bot, any course, and on your best day.

It's true what tJ said, you won your ZLP when nobody knew to look for it. it wasn't as big then as it was the last few years of this game lifetime. ZLP's have sinced been achieved with the average room consisting of 2-3 players with twice the skill level of you. The competition was through the roof. And even with that competition, we had players nearly achieve a ZLP in under 2,000 wins. You were a big fish in a small pond. Come to the ocean my friend, you won't last a day.

I hope we all can find a new game to play, preferably a skill based racing game. It would be interesting to see how we would match up.

It sounds like you sold TopStar a load of goods. Nice sales job and my hat is off to you guys for convincing him.

"Hey TopStar. Tell us most of your secrets that you spend hundreds of hours discovering so we can beat you because we are too lazy to do it ourselves."
TopStar-"No Way"
Everybody else "Come on. It will make the game better."
TopStar "Uh...OK."

Anyway, at the end, did anybody ever do much innovation after TopStar?
This irks me on many levels. Don't get me wrong, this community appreciates what you did for this game, but you were here for a year. You barely scratched the surface of what this game has to offer.

You are currently ranked 20th all time for playing this game... referenced here

Simply put, you just don't even come close to the level of play that was achieved through this game. It is extremely unfair to say TopStar ruined this game. You weren't here so you don't understand that the game was on the brink of destruction because of new players thinking we were hacking because of the scores we put up. We almost had no choice but to show that it is possible to achieve the scores we have. We were also looking to promote Excitebots in a positive way to help grow interest which actually did end up happening, so there is a positive.

As for the innovation after TopStar... I could go on and on about who all contributed what to this game. This game can still be innovated to find new lines to take. We didn't max out everything we could and that shows the beauty and depth to this game.

We have achieved score that beat you out by 330 stars. I think this game didn't lack any innovating.  ;)

Back to the lazy thing. None of the regular vets were lazy and like I said before, we all contributed something new to this game in some way. You say you beat the game and moved on, but there are so many ways to play the game that you really didn't beat much of anything in this game. It is a cool accomplishment to have a ZLP and be the first to do it. I applaud your achievement, but please don't come back years later after hardly contributing much to this game and accuse players of ruining the game or having a lack of innovation.

Depending on how long you stay on this site, you will find just how tight-nit and passionate we are as a community. We all love this game deeply so please understand if my post comes across as standoffish.

And people (especially theJude)  ;) seem to still recognize TopStar as the best at this game. After years of bickering we came to the conclusion that there is no one single best player. There are many different aspects to the game so it is unfair to say there is one single best player.

Looks okay, but why not a real FPS, Flash?
I tend not to be too good at those. The people who play are kind of like how we are with Ebots and it isn't much fun for me.

I don't think Splatoon will have near as much depth as Ebots so maybe it isn't a permanent solution but rather a fun little game to keep us busy for a bit.

For those of you with a Wii U already, it is also possible to do all of this on the Wii U as far as I can tell. I think you would be better off doing it on the Wii since it may void your warranty for the Wii U. The only real pro for doing it on the Wii U is that it would keep all of your gaming progress on one console.

Here is the link.

amiibos - Plus, imagine some future Excitebots game where you can buy mini-bot figures which will allow you to customize their stats, upgrade them, etc...  I would be SO into that it would be ridiculous!

Zelda (for Wii U) - WOW!!  Did not expect the Open-World announcement, but I think it's the right direction for the series.  In many ways, as they discussed, they're going back to the roots of the game, which is a good thing.  Oh, and it doesn't look bad, either! :o

Hyrule Warriors - Very interesting concept here.  Basically they're taking the Dynasty Warriors series and inserting Zelda characters.  I looks pretty cool and it might be fun.  I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game before, but I'd definitely be willing to give this a chance.

Yoshi's Wooly World/Kirby and the Rainbow Cruise - Both are very cutesy, fun looking platformers that I think will be fun.  I'll be keeping an eye on these.

Mario Maker - FINALLY!!! I've been wanting this for years now!  We finally get an official Mario level creator and I'm super stoked about it!

Splatoon - To me this was the most surprising and interesting game Nintendo announced.  Check out this trailer:

Basically, it's a shooter, with a twist, and is meant to be family friendly.  I really dig the style of this and I think this could become "our new game."  It's multiplayer based and puts an interesting twist on an old but tried-n-true formula, just like a certain game we used to enjoy.

Anyways, those were my thoughts, what did you guys think?
My first words when seeing Splatoon were "I can see myself spending a lot of time on this game." It's a shame it looks so, for lack of a better word, childish. Then again, Excitebots looked like that as well and ended up being the best game ever. I like how there will never be the exact same match in Splatoon and everything is constantly changing. I'm hoping everyone would be willing to give this one a try.

As for the other games above, yes.. They are the ones I really liked and the ones that stood out to me.

If you're making a video, Flash, do you have a screen recorder - like CamStudio (or better)?  Something to do a whole walk through?
I don't have a screen recorder, and after going through NoGood's and Top's instructions, it wasn't all that hard anyway. If we do still end up needing a video then I can probably work something out.

My Wii makes a buzzing noise and sometimes has issues with starting up the disc (it'll make the insert noise but doesn't always start spinning, it takes a few tries).
That is exactly what my problem was, but now it won't load the game at all.

ExciteBots: Trick Racing / Re: ExciteBots Online with Homebrew
« on: June 10, 2014, 09:41:10 PM »
It would work for me if my Wii was able to load the game. My Wii has been messed up for a while now and it does this thing where is starts spinning the disc then won't make the sound it makes when it is about to load the game. Instead it just stops spinning. I have heard of a few people sending their Wii in, but is there a way to do this myself so I can fix it?

Just tried cleaning it, no change. I am probably not going to send it in to Nintendo so may be looking for a new Wii soon.
