Hm. My hunch would be a new Excite Truck title for the Switch, given that it has not been released on the WiiU (unlike Bike and Bots). Getting the patent for Truck is kind of overkill for a WiiU release, I would think. They might need the trademark in order to make changes

I searched the US Trademark Office database at and found a previous trademark application from 2009/10 that was just cancelled about two weeks ago. The December, 2016 application is still active. By the way, their trademark to Excitebots was registered in 2010 and is still live.

The plot thickens!

I might have to look into this...

Hi everybody! There's 8 new races on MKWiiU, including another F Zero inspired one. Ridiculously hard..

Hey guys, how's it going?

Every once in a while, they put a new racer in the Nintendo EShop that looks like it has potential, but there's never any online multiplayer component. It's just not enough to post your scores online.

I have been playing quite a few tablet games lately, but not racers.

Having said that, I am becoming pretty proficient at MKWiiU so if anybody wants to take me on....

Well, the DLC is available and it's quite fun.

Ironically, the Excitebike Arena race is the least interesting. I really like the F-Zero Mute City inspired one. More stuff at

In a way it's odd that they thought of Excitebike first but I guess it makes sense given the use of bikes in MK.

This is kind of fun news for those who liked Excitebike World Rally. It's also good that the Excite franchise is still on the radar. There's apparently an F-Zero course as well.

Introduce Yourself / Re: JamesStock (aka JamesSk)

Hello, JamesStock. Perhaps you remember me, or my original alias, insect0. I have been playing quite a bit of MK8 lately. I would be happy to have a friendly race or two. My coordinates and those of a few others are at

Perhaps Feeble would like to join in.

Hey, Joom. I have to admit I haven't felt the itch much. Part of the reason for that  is that I am spending a lot of time with offline multiplayer on MK8. There are three of us (my sons and me) racing right now, so we can't go online (max. 2). I try to sneak online when I can..

Ironically, I was given a used Wii for Father's Day, but I haven't set it up yet. I do periodically think about trying Excite Truck again.

Not sure what DynamO has been up to (can never tell with these Canadians :P).

I'm getting better at MK8 and would be happy to play anytime online now.

Intriguing. Will I get a Wii with a working disc drive? Hmm.

Interesting. If you guys do connect, I'd be interested to know what environment you find. Can a match be made? Will you be in a room? Or will you just race online together in an offline sort of way?

Wii U / Re: Wii U Friend List
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:07:44 AM »
TopStar, I couldn't find you on the friend thing. What am I missing? Are you the one with another name attached to TopStarRacer? Feel free to PM if that would be better.

Agent C, Wii Sports Club is a lot of fun. It's downloadable, but the pricing structure is a bit bizarre. You pay one sport at a time. I'm into the golf and bowling, not so much the tennis. Apparently they are adding baseball and boxing later this month and adjusting the pricing structure a bit.

If you do decide to go for a WiiU and Sports Club, let me know if I can help you with anything.

I will send friend requests to you both, but I won't be much competition on MK8 for a while. I'm even rustier with MK style racing than EB.

Wii Sports Club bowling is a different story.. ;D

May 30 at 11 on C3 for anyone who wants to pay respects.

Well setting up for the new server is going to be a lot easier for me considering I had already done two steps needed back when I was getting tired of my Wii making that horrid buzzing noise (Getting the Homebrew Channel and USB Loader GX...the channel that allows you to play any Wii game from a USB device)

Came across this video. It's not really a tutorial but it has links in the description that take you to written tutorials. Last year if some of you recall I was racing ExciteBots from a flash drive on my Wii. It sounds like we'd have to do the same thing only this time patch the image file (of the game) to redirect to the new server (Wiimmfi) and change the DNS settings on the Wii to make it work.

I'm going to play with this all tomorrow when I get home from work and I'll let you all know if I can get ExciteBots "searching for a match" again. It sounds like the custom server is running so it's a matter of hooking up with it. If I'm successful, I'll do my best to get a guide going for everyone here that's interested in playing.
Running from a USB device would bring my Wii back to life, unless I need the disk drive at some point in the process.

Sad little video:

Under the circumstances (described elsewhere), chatting about next steps would probably be premature and unproductive. However, I'm still happy to have a chat session so participants can commemorate the death of "official" online play.

For those who would like to participate but are unfamiliar with C3, the download site is at I believe there are several ExciteBots channels, but others can correct me and or provide more information.

When? When else, Friday night around 11:00 EST, May 30 (I think May 23 is too soon, and falls on a long weekend).

Well, here I go trying to be constructive. This is a community after all, and like any community, it's hard to just walk away from even a minor tragedy like this without paying some respect and moving on.

Let me toss out an initial idea, which I admit I haven't completely thought through.

How about a C3 voice chat event, the purpose of which would be initially to share a few stories or memories about ExciteBots? A way of verbalizing some of what has been shared here in the past few days and without (ironically) the distraction of the racing itself?

At this meeting, or more likely, a second meeting, could be brainstormed ideas for the future, including, but not limited to: 1) the future of this forum, 2) the future of WiiU online racing amongst "former" EB online racers (e.g. MarioKart8? Sonic/Sega?), 3) if not online racing, what other options? 4) what about the homebrewed Wii EB server idea, how likely is it?

Anyway, all ideas welcome, or feel free to shoot down mine.

That was my goodbye to EB. So, you probably won't hear much more from me in the near future. However, maybe when I get MK8 I will try to post some stuff. We'll see. I guess a lot depends on whether this site can ever be more than just an EB site.

Congrats theJude!

It was a pleasure to race one last night. It's been a helluva 5 years. Maybe we will meet up again on a dusty circuit somewhere for some tree runs, nice crashes and turbo jumps. And some combos and air spins too. All the best everybody.

Jude, that is serious sugar. I prefer the savory snacks for EB racing.

I will try to be on WFC and C3 a little bit later tonight and more later tomorrow. Might as well go out with a bang.

ExciteBots: Trick Racing / Re: Possible Hope?
« on: May 14, 2014, 10:25:31 AM »
Certainly looks promising, it should be clarified that you can still play after May 18 even if you don't send your FC, but you need a new licence. Looks like a bit of downloading and patching would be required, and I'm not sure if/how that would work on a WiiU.

For this reason and others, I won't likely sign up although I may jump in later if there's enough going on.

It's interesting and ironic that MK Wii apparently already has a custom server ( ), when MK8 for WiiU is about to come out on May 30.

Interesting article. In theory, it looks like Dolphin could replace Nintendo WFC, but may be too technically challenging or problematic to make worthwhile.

A lot of nostalgic fun for me too. I'll try to do c3 most Fridays and Saturdays late until the final weekend. After that, pool frisbee with EB disks.
