That's why you're still a kid...

OK, so those of you who've played Onslaught probably immediately smiled when you saw the title.  The rest of you just scratched your head and said "WTF?"

What is it: Onslaught is a downloadable game from the WiiWare service that costs about $10 (1000 points).  It is a First Person Shooter that is all about running, gunning, and killin' some friggen bugs.  There's no crouching or hiding behind cover, there's no regenerating health.  It's just you, your guns, and a crap-load of stuff to kill.

Now, given it's a WiiWare game, it is by it's very nature limited.  The graphics are ho-hum at best, the enemy variety is limited, and there's only 13 levels.  However, they make the most of with what they have.  The levels range from defending a base, exploring large arena-style levels, and making your way through cramped labyrinths.  Your 4 guns are your standard uzi, assault rifle, shotgun, and rocket launcher, with grenades and a whip to help you out as well.  Some missions even have a vehicle with guns for you to drive around in (which I always find to be a blast).

Now again, the game is quite short.  I beat the single-player on easy in about 3-4 hours, but it has a ton of replayability.  There are 3 difficultys to start off with (easy, normal, and hard), with another two that you can unlock as well (expert and ultra).

However, the thing that strikes me as having the most potential (which I have yet to try out) is an only co-op mode.  In this, you can team up to take down the hoards together as you go for high scores.  Now, after perusing some of the old gameFAQs forum threads for this game, the biggest people seemed to have was the lack of ability to communicate, but we've solved that little problem around here, haven't we? ;D

So what say we round ourselves up a posse and go hunt ourselves up some bugs?  I hear their green blood makes a delicious stew. :D :P
I don't always play videogames, but when I do, I prefer Excitebots.  Keep spinning, my friends.  8)

Here's a gameplay video of the first level to give you an idea what the gameplay is like:

I remember hearing about this game when it was close to release, but I forgot all about it until now. It looks pretty cool. I'm pretty bad at fps games, but it sounds like it's pretty fun. If you want to play some co-op I could buy it, and get on mumble with you. Based on your impressions of it, it seems like a fun, short little game to play through.  :)

Just seeing this.  I'll have to check it out later today...
A computer once beat me at chess, but as it turns out it was no match for me at kickboxing... ;)
